Don’t Worry, You Can Have a Smile Fit for a Celebrity, Too

First things first, can we all just raise a glass to the progress that’s been made in the dental industry over the years?

Cheers to not having to use whiskey as novocaine and hoping for the best. Cheers to being able to figure out the root of a problem and being able to fix it. CHEERS to not only being able to have a healthy smile, but the smile we want.

Plenty of celebrities have taken advantage of all that progress and had cosmetic dental work done to give them those impossibly-perfect red-carpet smiles. No surprise there. But who can blame them when they can’t even go to the gym without getting upwards of 500 pictures taken of them?

You may not be experiencing that issue (we certainly aren’t), but cosmetic surgery can still be a great, and surprisingly attainable, option. After all, with an infectious smile like yours, who wouldn’t want to show it off?

Okay cool, so what exactly are some cosmetic dentistry options?

Veneers are one of the most common types of cosmetic dentistry. As tooth-colored, front-facing exteriors, they give your smile a perfect uniformity. (And no, they’re not dentures. You don’t remove them at the end of the day.)

Bonding is another cosmetic procedure in which a dentist will attach materials directly to your teeth to hide a chip, or even to reshape the tooth. It fuses with your tooth enamel to make it sturdy and ready for action.

Whitening is one of the single most sought-after cosmetic dentistry procedures. People of all ages and smiles elect to whiten their teeth. Just make sure you don’t employ any DIY methods that will hurt rather than help.

Porcelains, are fillings meant to look like your actual teeth. Gold or silver fillings were common back in the day, but not everyone wants that kind of shiny smile. Now you can replace them with porcelains to make the filling completely invisible.

Got it. But let’s see some examples. Cue celebrities.

Tom Cruize

Tom Cruise, your favorite popped-collar, white button-down, tube sock-wearing Risky Business man, had substantial work done to his million-dollar grin. His once discolored, crooked teeth were straightened and whitened, and reports say he later got veneers. Quite the transformation!

George Clooney

George Clooney, the silver fox heartthrob, had plenty of dental work done before he became famed Las Vegas heister, Danny Ocean. When stress sets in, George grinds his teeth, which essentially sands them down into a different shape. Veneers fixed that right up and gave this star one dreamy smile.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham, or better known to her lifelong fans as Posh Spice, used to tout a smile with large gaps and uneven spacing. Thanks to the dental wonders of straightening and bonding, she now flaunts a simply flawless grin.

Jim Carey

Jim Carrey, your resident Pet Detective, has a bond on his front left tooth, thanks to a childhood tooth-chipping accident. While the cap makes his front teeth look flawless, he did have it removed for the filming of Dumb and Dumber and he still takes it off occasionally to amuse his fans. We think it’s funny, Jim.

All of these procedures are extremely common, not just amongst celebrities. Even those of us who have to take our own selfies want a perfect grin. And you can have it. Chat with your MDA dentist and see what course of action will give you the smile you’ve been dreaming of.
