Michigandental.org is the website of the Michigan Dental Association (“MDA”) for dental professionals. The Michigan Dental Association is committed to protecting your privacy. This notice describes the information we collect about you through michigandental.org, how it’s used, and how we protect it.

The MDA may collect your information from you:

  • Through our Store at store.michigandental.org: Name, Business Name, Address, City, State, ZIP Code, email address, and phone number.
  • Through our public and professional websites at smilemichigan.com and michigandental.org: users are anonymous but we track information on pages the user accesses, length of time spent on pages, browser type, operating system, etc.
  • Through various surveys, forms, or quizzes: any information requested through such surveys, forms, or quizzes, which you may complete at your discretion.
  • For those who communicate with us via email: we collect the e-mail addresses of those who do so.

The MDA website may also store “cookies” on your computer. Cookies save certain information entered by you on our website and are used to administer our website and to record session information, such as items that users add to their shopping cart.

Additionally, the MDA uses other websites, including Jobboard.io (a division of ZipRecruiter, Inc.) and Mailchimp.com to allow our users to post available jobs (via the MDA Job Board) and to send out our newsletters and other promotional materials. The MDA is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any such websites, whether or not such links are accessible through our Website. Any information collected for either the MDA Job Board website or Mailchimp is provided directly by you, including Identity Data, Contact Data, Financial Data, Transactional Data, Technical Data, Profile Data, Usage Data, and Marketing and Communications Data (for purposes of jobboard.io) and your name and email address (for purposes of MailChimp.)  Jobboard.io’s privacy policy, which includes a detailed description of the data types set forth above, can be found here: https://www.jobboard.io/privacy-policy/.

The American Dental Association also maintains a directory of dentists that may include information you submit via its website. This directory is available on the MDA public website and contains your name, practice address, practice phone number, and practice website (if on file).

How We May Use Information We Collect

The MDA may use the information we collect to alert you to information, products and services, events and other opportunities either by mail or through the MDA’s monthly Journal eNews. Specifically:

With regard to data collected by our Store, we use this information to assist in processing any orders you place through our Store.

With regard to the information collected by smilemichigan.com, this information is collected anonymously so that it cannot be used to identify you. This anonymous data is used for the purpose of providing an optimal website experience.

With regard to surveys, forms, and quizzes, this information is collected for the purpose of compiling the data submitted by our users to provide the services requested by our members.

Email addresses are collected so that we can continue to communicate with you.

Any information collected by the MDA is collected through your voluntary submission and consent. To “opt out” of any electronic mailings or to have any data removed, please contact the MDA or click on the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any email newsletter.

We will not share your nonpublic personal information with other companies for their marketing purposes without your affirmative consent.

An MDA subsidiary or affiliate may have certain privacy policies even more stringent than noted here, which will be indicated on its specific portion of michigandental.org or its own site.

Your Rights

We may keep the personal data identified above, including any correspondence or comments, for so long as such information is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected and for legal or business requirements. We will establish minimum and maximum retention periods for all such data and procedures for maintaining or destroying any such data. Please note that the MDA does not maintain any data that you provide to jobboard.io through jobs.michigandental.com. Any such data is retained according to jobboard.io’s privacy policy unless and until you remove any data that you have provided.

Subject to any applicable exceptions provided by law, we will make your data available do you. To review and of your personal information held by the MDA, including how the MDA uses or has used such information, please send an email request to the MDA Membership Department or call 800-589-2632. You must describe the information you wish to review and you may be required to provide additional information sufficient to assist us in identifying you. We will make every effort to respond to your request within 30 days, but if we are unable to do so, we will notify you in writing. If you are located in the European Union or the European Economic Area, you have the right to make a complaint to the appropriate EU county privacy commission with respect to this time limit. We expect to provide access to this information without charge, but we reserve the right to collect a reasonable charge in connection with such a request. If so, we will notify you before responding to your request so that you have an opportunity to withdraw your request.

The MDA uses industry-standard security technology to protect the loss, misuse, or alternation of any data we collect. These security measures include end-to-end encryption when any personal data is transmitted and storage of such information in a secured database. We limit access to our servers and require our employees to adhere to high standards of ethics and integrity in performing their jobs. The MDA restricts access to nonpublic personal information to our employees and others who must use it to provide our products and services.
