Registered Dental Hygienist
A registered dental hygienist is a preventive oral health professional who has graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program, licensed in dental hygiene, who provides educational, clinical, research, administrative, and therapeutic services supporting total well being through the promotion of optimal oral health.
According to the Occupational Regulations Section of the Michigan Public Health Code:
“Practice as a dental hygienist means” practice at the assignment of a dentist in that specific area of dentistry based on specialized knowledge, formal education, and skill with particular emphasis on preventive services and oral health education.
