Fee: $269/Dentists; $139/Staff and Life Member retired Dentists; $369/Nonmember Dentists

This course is designed for dentists and staff to develop strategies to prevent, identify and respond to medical problems including syncope, allergy issues, cardiovascular abnormalities, diabetes and respiratory distress. Emphasis will be placed on preparing the dental team in advance of a crisis to minimize its potential impact. Although dentists and staff will benefit from attending individually, the greatest gain is achieved when the entire dental team attends together. By doing so, dental teams can develop a coordinated response to a patient’s problem. An extensive hand-out is provided that can later be condensed into a chairside manual with appropriate protocols to respond to most emergencies.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participants should be able to:

  • describe the cardiac cycle and how it facilitates circulation perfusion;
  • recognize how to obtain a quality medical history that is both current and accessible;
  • describe the minimal staffing requirements and pre-assigned duties for each staff person;
  • understand how to recognize and maintain a patient airway;
  • understand how to supplement the oxygen supply to someone with respiratory depression; and
  • recognize the use of various medications in the dentist’s emergency drug kit.

About the speaker ... Dr. Larry Sangrik maintains a full-time general practice in Chardon, Ohio, with an emphasis on the treatment of apprehensive patients with IV sedation.

Patients are looking for certain qualities when they seek care. They want someone with good hands and a good reputation. Now, with an understanding of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building or remodeling concepts, we can enhance our overall reputation in the community and attract patients looking for a green, eco-friendly professional.

This session will not only review LEED features, but it will also discuss several environmentally conscious steps any office can take to become a better steward of its office surroundings. Dr. Knowles will discuss how our environmental choices can help or hinder our overall health–particularly when it comes to diseases like asthma, heart disease, and cancer.

Dr. Knowles will discuss how awareness, in general, leads to more dollars in your pocket. She will review how being green leads to many unexpected, positive, practice-building outcomes. Think Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and other conscious businesses. These shoppers need and want conscious health care, too!
