Maybe you’ve seen a few posts referencing our MOM Event. While we think moms are awesome, this acronym stands for Mission of Mercy. Below is everything you need to know about what the why, what, who, when, and where.

Okay, so what IS Mission of Mercy?

The Michigan Mission of Mercy is a partnership between the Michigan Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association Foundation, also known fondly as #MICHMOM. It’s a two-day FREE dental clinic for any child or adult that needs dental services, regardless of previous dental history, insurance status or their ability to pay.

And you said this was free?

We sure did. Mission of Mercy runs solely on donations and by volunteers. We have received very generous contributions from our MOM sponsors that allow us to bring in the equipment and supplies necessary for the clinic. Everyone working at the clinic, dentists and the like, is volunteering their time and talents. All services provided are absolutely free to patients.

Will you take care of all dental issues?

Our dentists will be addressing a patient’s most severe need first (ex: infection or pain). Outside of that, the services offered will include cleanings, fillings, tooth removals (except for wisdom teeth), root canals, and treatment parcels, to name a few. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide orthodonture, caps, crowns, dentures, implants, or bridges.

Narcotics will not be offered at the event, but your dentist will discuss all options with you for pain relief, should you be in need of a major service.

Great, where should I head to?

The Mission of Mercy #MICHMOM event will take place at Calvin College in Grand Rapids. It’s important to note that approximately 2,500 patients are expected to receive treatment over the course of two days, and it’s all first come first serve. The doors to the event open at 6 a.m., and patients typically begin arriving shortly after midnight so the earlier you get there in the morning hours, the better your chance of seeing a dentist.
