National Children's Dental Health Month

The annual observance of children's dental health began as a one-day event in Cleveland, Ohio on Feb. 3, 1941. The American Dental Association held the first national observance of Children's Dental Health Day on Feb. 8, 1949. This single day observance became a week-long event in 1955, and in 1981 the program was extended to a month-long celebration known today as National Children's Dental Health Month.

MDA Offers Classroom Resources

The MDA offers an array of materials to help members, dental staff and teachers with oral health educational presentations to children.  If you have additional needs or questions about these resources, please contact April Stopczynski at 517-346-9417.

Resources include:

Give Kids a Smile Planning Resources

As the movement toward getting young patients into a dental home increases, the MDA has scaled back its efforts on one-day initiatives such as Give Kids a Smile.  Below are links to the ADA’s resources.  If you have additional needs for your Give Kids a Smile treatment event, please contact April Stopczynski at 517/346-9417.

ADA News Needs GKAS Photos and Anecdotes

The ADA News is encouraging Give Kids a Smile program participants to send digital photos and short summaries of the day's activities for publication online and in the print version of ADA News. Please send candid pictures of children, dentists and team members interacting, as well as clinical photos (patients in the chair, dental team in gloves, masks and protective eyewear). Be sure to include identification of those pictures and facts about your event. A sample photo permission release form can be found in the GKAS Program Planning Toolbox.

Please send your high resolution photos for consideration to adanews@ada.org as soon as possible following your event. Photos can also be posted on the ADA's GKAS Facebook page. Clinical photos submitted for the site should also show dental professionals using universal precautions.
