Today’s composites are often perceived as being so complicated that many clinicians are apprehensive to incorporate them into mainstream practice. A new generation of posterior composite resins can be utilized with a simplified protocol to create amazing direct posterior restorations that rival the beauty and strength of porcelain. Subjects discussed will include practical techniques to predictably restore both Class I and posterior Class II composites, predictable shade selection, simplified preparations, natural mono, and duo and layering, multiple contact predictability and efficient finishing and polishing. Other topics will include preventing post-operative sensitivity, flowable resin use, mixed media cases, indirect restoration blockout, provisionalization, repairs/renewals, and advanced aesthetics.

Course objectives include:

  • learning how to efficiently and predictably restore multiple Class II posterior composites;
  • discovering how to determine the ideal marginal ridge height and occlusion of a Class II posterior composite before starting treatment;
  • learning multiple uses of flowable composite in everyday clinical dentistry;
  • understanding how to eliminate post-op sensitivity easily and predictably; and
  • decreasing the time needed to effectively restore posterior direct resins.

Drug addiction and alcoholism are rampant in our culture. Everyone is affected by addiction, either directly or indirectly. This very common problem can be diagnosed and treated, but you can't treat what you don't talk about! It's time to talk openly and honestly about one of our biggest societal problems! Dr. Mead will explain what addiction is, how it's diagnosed and how it's treated. He'll also talk about the Michigan Dental Association's Care and Well Being committee and how it's helping dentists and dental teams get help for dealing with addiction and the problems that come with it.

Drug abuse and addiction often shows up in the dental office in the form of patients seeking controlled substances inappropriately. How do you know who the real drug seekers are? How do you deal with them? Dr. Mead will cover how to handle drug seekers in the office with ease and how to use the Michigan Automated Prescription System to objectively identify those patients that might be helped by a caring referral. Participants will learn how to sign up and use MAPS in their office and understand why they need this valuable tool!

The role of insurance has become intricately woven into the fabric of dental health care delivery over the past 40 years. Although it does not meet the usual definitions or functions of third parties taking risks for catastrophic losses, and appears to be more of a maintenance program, it does impact patient, team and providers decisions daily. The speaker will explore the history and role of insurance and help you and your staff develop the verbal and behavioral skills to become less dependent of the limitations of coverage. The discussion will cover how we can create the educational opportunities for patients so that they really understand the role of insurance and remain free to make decisions about their dental care that are in their long term interests.

Help more patients have better health, do more of the dentistry that fulfills and stimulates you and be more successful in your practice.
