Despite numerous changes in the countries legal, regulatory and insurance-based systems, dentistry continues to rank among the top professions in the United States. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as most dentists work fewer than 40 hours a week, have high incomes, and more autonomy in their work than almost all other professionals.

This career should be described as incredible by all of us, yet many of us struggle with uncertainty regarding our teams, financial stability, new patient flow, and inconsistent systems within the office. These challenges, among others, have been an obsession for Dr. Gupta over the past 10 years, and implementation of his simple systems has resulted in a more meaningful professional identity for hundreds of dentists.

In this program you will learn:

  • a consistent internal marketing approach that costs nothing, but results in high number of new patients who already know you, trust you, and are excited about beginning treatment;
  • a new patient protocol that immediately creates an extraordinary atmosphere;
  • a simple and easy to implement guide on maximizing harmony amongst your team members, resulting in a highly productive “dream-team” in which bickering is kept to a minimum, and autonomy and ownership in the health of the practice is maximized; and
  • a comprehensive approach to maximizing total health for your patients and yourself.

About the speaker ... Dr. Ankur Gupta practices in Avon, Ohio, and lectures nationally.

Creating an employee handbook is great way to communicate expectations to your staff, but it goes far beyond that. A well-written handbook can be a lifesaver when it comes to managing difficult situations such as suspected substance abuse in the workplace, harassment claims, requests for accommodations or leaves of absence, and basic confidentiality and social media do’s and don'ts. However, due to the time involved in creating and/or updating a handbook, many well-intentioned dentists and office managers have had to go without — until now.

This handbook workshop will guide you through what should and should not be included in your employee manual, and then provide the necessary time for you to create/update your own handbook in the same day, so you leave with a finished product in your hand! This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with others in the group and benefit from input from the MDA’s trusted Human Resources expert, Jodi Schafer. Due to the nature of the workshop, space is limited, so register today!

As a bonus, the Michigan Dental Association’s Staff Matters® Human Resource System (electronic version) is included in the seminar price — normally valued at $149.

About the speaker ... Jodi Schafer is owner of Human Resource Management Services, LLC.

Financial support provided by MDA Insurance, MDA Services, and Crest Oral B Professional Oral Health.

Diagnostic Considerations and New Treatment Options for Difficult Cases

Speaker: Edward Feinberg, DMD

Fee: $269/Dentists; $139/Staff and Life Member Retired Dentists; $369/Nonmember dentists

Difficult cases can be simplified when carefully thought out. A strong proficiency in crown and bridge, precision attachments, restorative dentistry and implants allows the practitioner to choose the best treatment options for the patient. This course will present a unique approach to diagnosis and treatment planning that will offer the practitioner new and creative treatment options to help patients — including patients who are not candidates for sophisticated dentistry. In addition course attendees will learn how to treat teeth with insufficient clinical crowns. These teeth, which are often considered “non-restorable,” can be saved without posts or buildups. Techniques for making provisional and permanent restorations on these teeth that do not fall out will be demonstrated. This presentation includes numerous case examples from a library of more than 100,000 pictures and X-rays taken during the past 60 years. Participants will learn:

  • how to examine and diagnose a patient;
  • how to choose the best treatment option for a patient;
  • how to manage difficult cases such as excessive wear, periodontal bone loss and malocclusions;
  • how to restore teeth with no clinical crowns without posts or buildups;
  • how to utilize “hopeless” teeth for transitional restorations;
  • when to best utilize fixed restorations, removable restorations and implant restorations; and
  • why the precision attachment case—for both natural tooth and implant abutments is an excellent treatment option that is often superior to fixed bridgework.

About the speaker ... Dr. Edward Feinberg is a nationally recognized lecturer and the author of numerous scientific articles. He resides in Scarsdale, New York.
