Christy is a dental assisting student at Baker College pursuing her registered dental assistant designation. A native of Macomb, she transferred from Macomb Community College after completing her general studies.
Christy’s interest in pursuing a career in dental assisting rose from the extensive dental work she received in her childhood and the numerous visits to general dentists, orthodontists, prosthodontists and oral surgeons. The assistants providing her care also inspired Christy. Further inspiration came at Baker College from instructors Kelly Roos, Sherri Altman and Sandy Kijorski.
From the patient interaction to the front desk administration and all areas in between, Christy said there’s so much to enjoy from being a dental assistant. However, she wanted to learn more, and to become more by earning her registered dental assistant credentials. She was told to never give up on her goal, and advises students looking at dentistry as a career path to be strong and love what you do.
In the future Christy sees herself working as a full-time dental assistant and perhaps an office manager or head dental assistant at a successful practice. Further down the road she hopes to finish law school and perhaps combine law and dentistry into a career. Oh, and there’s a little thing called a wedding day that she’s looking forward to in 2010!
Christy also sees herself participating in organized dentistry or serving on a committee at a national, state, or local level. She’s already attended the Michigan Dental Assistant’s Association meeting and the MDA Annual Session.
“Winning the MDA scholarship has helped me cover a part of the cost for tuition and books,” she explained. “It was much needed and I am very thankful.”
