The Michigan Dental Association Foundation is once again collaborating with The Old Newsboys Goodfellows of Detroit this holiday season to provide oral health kits in holiday packages to Detroit area children in need.
The Foundation places the oral health kits in the Goodfellows holiday baskets, which are distributed to children ages 4 to 13 in Detroit, Highland Park, River Rouge and Hamtramck.
The project is a joint effort with the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Dentistry and Delta Dental, with assistance from Procter & Gamble and Quantum Labs Inc. The Goodfellows are distributing 36,000 holiday baskets to meet the ever-increasing need in the communities.
The oral health kits included a pencil style case containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a bookmark with oral hygiene instructions. The holiday baskets include shirts, pants, socks, gloves, a warm hat, books, dolls and toys. Children who receive the baskets will have a brighter holiday season because for many it may be the only gifts they receive this season. The holiday packages are distributed at seven locations in the Detroit area over a two-week span in December. The children who receive these gifts will have a brighter holiday season because for many it may be the only gifts they receive this season.
The project, which has provided more than 265,000 dental kits over the past eight years, is made possible through donations to the Michigan Dental Association Foundation. To help the Michigan Dental Association Foundation continue to support such worthy projects, make a donation today. All donations are tax deductible.
More than $160,000 in donations have already been received — most notably a $40,000 donation from Delta Dental and a $35,000 donation from the Michigan Department of Community Health — for the 2014 Michigan Mission of Mercy. Volunteer registration is also open. Find out more about this exciting event.
