The Michigan Dental Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the Michigan Dental Foundation Access to Care/ Oral Health Initiatives Grants 2008. The recipients are Center for Family Health in Jackson, Care Free Medical Inc. Dental Clinic in Lansing, and VINA Community Dental Center in Brighton.
Each of the grant recipients received a $5,000 award to be used by the facility to provide access to care and oral health education to the underserved. The Michigan Dental Foundation has given nine grants totaling $50,000 over the past four years.
The Recipients
The Care Free Medical Inc. Dental Clinic in Lansing is a non-profit 501c(3) that serves the residents of Ingham County. The grant money will be used to implement an Oral Health Program for Head Start Parents, and an Emergency Room Program to treat patients with dental pain who seek treatment at the local hospital.
The Center for Family Health in Jackson is a federally qualified health center whose goal is to improve and enhance the health status of the community and provide access to quality health care services and education. They have six facilities in the Jackson area. The funds will be used to purchase an application server. This will facilitate the transfer of information files, radiographs etc. between the clinics.
The VINA Community Dental Center in Brighton is a community outreach program that provides dental care to the residents of Livingston County at or below the 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The funds will be used to provide dental care and oral health care education to the underserved residents.
“All three organizations are serving Michigan residents, providing access to oral health care,” explained Dr. Joan McGowan, chair of the Michigan Dental Foundation, Grant Administration Committee. “We commend their spirit and were happy to provide grants for them to continue their missions serving the undeserved.”
