Expansion of the Healthy Kids Dental Program by four counties has been postponed until Feb. 1, 2012, according to the Michigan Department of Community Health’s Medical Services Administration. The expansion into the counties of Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana, was originally scheduled to occur on Oct. 1, 2011. The expansion brings the number of Healthy Kids Dental counties up from 61 to 65 of the 83 counties in the state. Medicaid beneficiaries under age 21 residing in these counties will be enrolled automatically in Healthy Kids Dental, which provides access to participating Delta Dental dentists. Delta Dental administers the current Medicaid dental coverage according to their standard policies, procedures, and claim submission process. Covered benefits include examinations, diagnostic, preventive, restorative, and prosthodontic services. There is no co-payment for Medicaid beneficiaries under age 21 who are enrolled in Healthy Kids Dental.

Michigan dentists participate in a variety of state and community programs that offer low-cost or free dental services to individuals in need. These programs offer help to seniors, low-income individuals, patients on Medicaid, disabled, handicapped or institutionalized individuals, children, and others.
