The Michigan Dental Association has received some calls and e-mails regarding the recent closing of the Allcare Dental and Dentures offices in Michigan. Here is an update and information if you or someone you know was  a patient at an Allcare Dental office.

• Complaints Against Allcare: If patients have not filed a formal complaint with the Michigan Attorney General, they should do so by calling 1-877-765-8388. The complaint should be filed against Allcare, not the individual dentists.
• Credit Card Payments: If patients have used a credit card to pay for services they have not received, they should contact their credit card company.
• Patient Records: While most dental offices are privately owned by the dentists in a solo or small group practice, Allcare Dental was a corporate dental practice based in New York and operating in several states. Therefore, it is difficult at this time to determine how patient records are going to be returned to patients or passed along to other dentists.
• Allcare Status: The Lansing location has been re-opened by one of the dentists who worked in that office. The office is opened as a private practice and this dentist is NOT associated with Allcare anymore. According to Allcare’s info site, www.allcareinfo.com, they are working to transfer patient records and unfinished dental work to dentists with offices located as close as possible to the closed Allcare locations. They are also working to make patient records available.
• Patient Referrals: Turn to the MDA website's Find a Dentist section. It's the easiest way to search for a dentist in your area. Simply input your address and you'll be provided a list of MDA-member dentists in your area. HOwever, you should inquire with the dental office to see if the doctor is taking new patients.
• Elderly or Disabled Patients: If a patient is elderly or disabled and you think they may qualify for Donated Dental Services, they can be referred to DDS at 1-866-263-4067 or 1-800-850-5913.
