Students considering careers in dental assisting should be aware that only programs accredited by the ADA’s Commission on Dental Accreditation can result in licensure that allows them to perform expanded duties. The Michigan Dental Association has issued a position statement to further clarify its stance on dental assisting educational programs.

Michigan dentists participate in a variety of state and community programs that offer low-cost or free dental services to individuals in need. These programs offer help to seniors, low-income individuals, patients on Medicaid, disabled, handicapped or institutionalized individuals, children, and others.
