The School Dentist visited the Catholic Social Services Hispanic Outreach Center in Pontiac on Jan. 28, 2011, for their annual Give Kids A Smile event. There 53 children received dental prophylaxes, fluoride treatments, dental examinations, sealants and 268 X-rays. Children's ages ranged from age one to age 18. The School Dentist staff includes Dr.Melanie Sheils Vergeldt, Erika Alberty, RDH, Petronela Hariga, X-ray technician., and Lea Gottschalk, dental assistant.

Michigan dentists participate in a variety of state and community programs that offer low-cost or free dental services to individuals in need. These programs offer help to seniors, low-income individuals, patients on Medicaid, disabled, handicapped or institutionalized individuals, children, and others.
